ah.. so we all know that metropol closed.. laga closed shortly after (which let me tell you what, i was fuckin heartbroken, i LOVED laga and damn near lived there the last yr it was open) then nicks fat city closed...
but there are a ton of smaller little places popping up everywhere. tons of bars around the city are featuring live bands certain nights of the week.. and im sure there are tons of all ages places i havent even heard of..
so lets discuss.. what are some of your favorite spots to check out live bands in this city and why?
smalls is ok but im not a fan of the location.. the rex is cool but maybe thats because i have a thing for old theaters.. prana gallery has alot of potential.. peters pub im partial to because i book shows there .. i like the crowd at the moose but stage is kinda small...
any thoughts?

The Rex is small as hell. Smalls is kinda eh. Never been to Prana. I'll make it to Peter's Pub one of these nights.
The problem with SHITSBURGH (hey i can say that i've lived here long enough) is that we have NO venue to hold up to 1000 people in any type of weather. Laga was that venue. It was decent, easy to get to, stage wasn't that big but hey there were quite a few good bands to come through that place. What we need is a place that is easy to get to, ample parking, can hold an event in any type of weather and can hold up to 1000 people somewhat decently and everyone has a good view of the stage.
Since we have nothing like that, all the bands i love pass by this town like a Hill District Ho with the CLAP, and i am forced to go to Cleveland (and immediately disinfect myself once leaving).
I like the small cubs, but in order to get more bands through this town we need a better venue and it seems that no one with power (or money) cares.

I couldn't agree more. I do have plans to buy a warehouse in the Strip District, but I gotta start makin some dough with my bar first. In other words, I'd love to open a venue like Laga, but it will take a couple years.
Hopefully someone comes along and does it sooner than that.

There's a new venue that just started having shows. It's New Evolution Studios. We had a show there last weekend and the place was pretty cool. The room isn't huge, but it had a good feel to it. It's also all ages, so that opens up that option for more people to make it out. Here's the address of the place: 5118 Penn Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15224 You can check it out this Saturday if you feel like it...

there are other places outside of pittsburgh also that are pretty decent to play..
like.... charleroi italian club, charleroi vfw, 885 soundroom, club angels
we've had some pretty decent crowds at some of them places... plus the shows in pittsburgh alot of them are 21+ so alot of the kids can't come out to represent cuz they aren't old enough
but we def need to get another place like laga where local and national acts can share the stage together like laga
